Romans Study XXVIII - How to Behave as a Child of God

 Continuing in Romans 12

 ⁹Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 

Paul tells us that love should be sincere- not fake. We are to have genuine love for the brethren and brethreness. 

 ¹⁰Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 

We are to be humble, putting others needs before our own. This is, needless to say, contrary to our human nature. This is one area that I need to put in check on an almost minute-by-minute basis. But as with the loaves and fishes, God will take our tiny sacrifice and use it to his Glory and make our cups run over...but we have to put the flesh in check first. He says so:

Luke 14:8 -11   When thou art bidden of any [man] to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;     And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

 ¹¹Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Colossians 3:23  And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

 ¹²Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

 Rejoicing in our hope (which means expectant hope-not a maybe yes maybe no kind of hope) of salvation (which is the helmet in the full armor of God) and the Kingdom to come, patiently suffering the trials of this world for Jesus said:

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

...continuing instant in prayer;

"continuing instant" is a phrase translated from 
προσκαρτερέω  (proskartereō)


meaning:

1) to adhere to one, be his adherent, to be devoted or constant to one

2) to be steadfastly attentive unto, to give unremitting care to a thing

3) to continue all the time in a place

4) to persevere and not to faint

5) to show one's self courageous for

6) to be in constant readiness for one, wait on constantly
