From the first Epistle to the Corinthians:
Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
I love knowledge, theology, bible study and smarty-pants debates. My idea of a good time is an mp3 player full of sermons, debates, expositions, commentaries and the like. God has gifted me with some intellect and I find it a wonderful thing to think upon things and understand things.
Years ago as a babe in Christ, I did believe in the Gifts and did have a prayer language on occasion. I was much more inclined to expect and welcome the supernatural and divine than I have been over the past several years.
Under some good solid bible teaching, which opened my eyes to many things of which I am truly grateful, I was led to start to think that the gifts had ceased, but now I am not so sure.
On this show, Matt Slick discusses cessationism with a caller starting at about 36 minutes into the program. Good points are made.
Balance is the key methinks. Gifts are GIFTS, not anything we do to get them, but He gives them as He chooses. If God wants to give supernatural healing, tongues, prophecies, or anything else He chooses to, who am I to decide it's not possible?
Just a new door He seems to be opening and I may do as Paul says and covet the best gifts.
